“Acumen” LLC is implementing a project to build an electricity storage facility in Lviv region. The purpose of this facility is to provide auxiliary services for automatic frequency restoration reserve (AFRR) for the Transmission System Operator – PJSC “NPC “Ukrenergo”.
Stability
A Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) is an innovative technological solution that allows electricity to be stored for later use. Such a system ensures a balance between electricity generation and consumption, especially in the context of a growing share of renewable energy sources (RES) in the power grid.
When there is a surplus of generated energy in the power system (for example, on a sunny day or a windy night), the system charges the batteries.
The energy is stored in lithium-ion or other types of batteries (lead-acid, sodium-sulfur, etc.).
During peak hours or emergencies, the battery discharges the stored energy into the grid, maintaining voltage and frequency stability.
Instant response to changes in load or generation
Reduction of dependence on weather conditions and daily generation variability
Use of stored energy during peak consumption hours
Ensuring uninterrupted power supply in case of a grid outage
Thanks to more efficient use of clean energy
Support of frequency and voltage in the grid
The modern power grid requires flexible solutions, especially amid the active transition to green energy.
